Resource Center for Jewish Clergy Director - Job Description
InterfaithFamily.com, a small, growing non-profit, seeks a Director for its Resource Center for Jewish Clergy (RCJC). The RCJC Director will be responsible for directing the organization, presentation and marketing of the organization’s resources for clergy and for those looking for clergy to participate in life cycle ceremonies. The Director will also help with the marketing, resource development and other aspects of the organization. The Director will report to the Chief Operating Officer and work closely with the Chief Executive Officer.
Specific responsibilities of the Resource Center for Jewish Clergy Director include:
The Resource Center for Jewish Clergy Director will enhance IFF’s achievement of its goals to reach interfaith families exploring Jewish life and provide them with supportive educational information and connections with Jewish life through the following responsibilities:
- Maintaining IFF’s Jewish Clergy Officiation Referral Service, which involves:
- networking with rabbis and cantors, ascertaining their practices regarding officiation, and recruiting clergy to IFF’s referral list
- responding to requests for help finding Jewish clergy to officiate, responding to further inquiries from couples in that process, and following up with couples to whom referrals are made
- finding and creating resources for clergy to give to intermarrying couples that will encourage their post-wedding Jewish engagement and creating mechanisms to follow up on a regular basis with the interfaith couples they marry
- Maintaining the “for clergy only,” password-protected section of the RCJC on IFF’s website, which involves commissioning, obtaining and developing content (essays, video interviews, manuals, guides) aimed at helping clergy work with people in interfaith relationships, and maintaining a blog accessible only by clergy in order to stimulate confidential discussion by clergy. Resources to be provided will:
- help rabbis work with intermarrying couples, for example with information about the emotional and psychological dynamics of intermarrying couples and their relationships with rabbis
- help rabbis who do not officiate, for example with information about how colleagues say “no” in ways that minimize the risk of alienation, about the rationales for not officiating, and about referring to colleagues who officiate who they respect
- help rabbis who do officiate do a better job and feel affirmed, connected with and supported by colleagues; and
- help to advance the decision-making of rabbis who are considering officiating by providing the rationales for officiating; how rabbis decided to do so and, if they changed their minds, why they did; what liturgy they use; and how they made their decision to officiate public in their congregation.
- Planning, organizing and facilitating local and regional conferences for clergy for open conversations about working with intermarrying couples and officiation
- Participating in rabbinic education about working with people in interfaith relationships and officiation.
- Providing resources to help interfaith couples plan their weddings, including regular updating/revising of our Wedding Ceremony Ideas for Interfaith Couples
- Finding and creating materials to help lay people and professional program providers in their work with interfaith families and children from interfaith families
- Collaborating with IFF’s editorial staff on content design and with IFF’s Network Director on building IFF’s organizations, professionals and programs listings.
Qualifications
- rabbinic ordination is strongly preferred.
- 5 to 7 years of experience and a demonstrated track record of helping individuals during life cycle events is strongly preferred.
- demonstrated interest in helping clergy work with people in interfaith relationships, experience working with clergy, experience maintaining referral services, experience developing and maintaining content resources, and experience organizing conferences are desirable.
- strong technical abilities with Microsoft Office products (Work, Outlook, etc).
- understanding of the Internet space (new technologies, online advertising, and search engine optimization and marketing).
- excellent inter-personal and oral and written communications skills; ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and volunteers; a high level of energy, creativity, flexibility, and humor; willing to roll-up sleeves to get the job done.
- strong organizational skills; self-starting with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and objectives in a busy non-profit setting; attention to detail and follow through.
